These cookies apply across the site. Expiry describes browser storage, not retention of separate server records. A first-party cookie is not automatically exempt from consent requirements simply because we set it ourselves.

CMS login and preview sessions use separate technologies for editors. An editor account is not needed to read public guides.

Third-party technologies

Cloudflare provides security and delivery services and may use security cookies depending on the features active for a request. Read Cloudflare's cookie information for its cookie purposes and lifetimes.

Convertlink is integrated to monetise retailer links. An external request occurs when its script loads, whether or not a persistent cookie is set. Affiliate services may use cookies or similar technologies to attribute referrals and purchases. Their storage and retention depend on the service and activity involved; the table above lists our own configured cookies, not every technology a third party may use.

Skimlinks is not currently loaded by the website's Skimlinks component. Other affiliate technologies, including Convertlink, can still be active.

Your choices and current limitations

The banner offers acceptance or rejection of optional cookies and records the choice in site_consent.

On a fresh UK, German or French page, Convertlink waits for marketing acceptance. On US, Australian and shared pages, the current implementation permits it to load without acceptance. The rule follows the page path, so visiting another edition or a shared legal page can result in different behavior.

Rejecting optional cookies does not currently prevent Convertlink from loading on all pages. A previously loaded script may remain active during navigation. Deleting the consent cookie causes the banner to appear again, but does not itself stop an already-loaded script, erase information already sent, or provide a universal opt-out from affiliate processing.

You can email [email protected] about withdrawing consent or objecting to processing. Browser controls can also block or delete cookies and other site data, and may reset your preferences. These controls do not replace consent controls required by law.

Retailer websites

When you follow a retailer link, the retailer and relevant affiliate network may process referral information. Their technologies and controls also apply. Review their privacy and cookie notices before proceeding.
