Most Australians should buy the Logitech Brio 500. It records 1080p with autofocus, which is as much as Teams and Zoom send, offers three framings, is certified for Teams, Zoom and Google Meet, and is stocked by nearly every big electronics and office retailer. On a computer with only USB-A ports, the Brio 100 is the simple choice. For certified 4K there is the Logitech MX Brio, and the Insta360 Link 2C keeps you in frame automatically as you move.

The picks in detail

  1. Top pick

    Best overall

    Logitech Brio 500 Webcam (960-001493)

The Brio 500 is the webcam most Australians working from home should buy, and the easiest to find: JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Bunnings, Scorptec, Retravision, Betta Electrical and Amazon AU all stock it.

It records 1080p at 30fps with autofocus, enough for anything Teams or Zoom will send, and it is certified for Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and Works With Chromebook. Pick 90°, 78° or 65° to show the room or just you, and add RightSight auto-framing with the free Logi Tune app. Skip it if your laptop has no USB-C port that carries video.

    What we like

    • Certified for Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and Works With Chromebook
    • Autofocus with three field-of-view settings
    • Stereo mic and integrated privacy shutter

    Watch out for

    • 1080p at 30fps at most (60fps only at 720p)
    • Auto-framing needs Logi Tune, which isn’t available for ChromeOS
  2. Best simple upgrade
Logitech Brio 100 webcam in off-white

    Logitech Brio 100 Webcam (960-001616)

The Brio 100 is for a desktop or older laptop with USB-A ports, and for anyone who just wants a camera on the monitor without software.

    View at Scorptec

You get 1080p at 30fps, a fixed-focus lens with a narrow 58° view, an omnidirectional mic, a sliding privacy shutter and RightLight 2 light balancing. Logitech lists it as compatible with Teams, Meet and Zoom, but not certified. Among the shops we link, Scorptec carries it. Skip it if your workplace insists on certified cameras or you want autofocus.

    What we like

    • USB-A plug-and-play
    • Built-in mic and integrated privacy shutter
    • 1080p at 30fps

    Watch out for

    • Fixed focus, not autofocus
    • No Teams or Zoom certification listed
  3. Best 4K webcam
Logitech MX Brio 4K webcam in black

Logitech MX Brio 4K Webcam (960-001558)

The MX Brio is for people who present, demo products on the desk or simply want the most capable certified camera.

    View at Officeworks

An 8.5MP Sony STARVIS sensor records 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps, with autofocus, dual beamforming mics and a privacy shutter you twist over the lens. It is certified for Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, Works With Chromebook and Streamlabs, and Show Mode tilts it down to share notes. Officeworks and Amazon AU sell it, and some shops call it the MX Brio 700 (see below). It needs a USB-C port that supports USB 3.0; without one, buy the Brio 500.

    What we like

    • 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps from an 8.5MP sensor
    • Certified for Teams, Zoom and Google Meet
    • Show Mode, 1/4-inch tripod thread and privacy shutter

    Watch out for

    • Needs a USB-C port that supports USB 3.0
    • Logitech’s support pages cover freezes under heavy use, traced to interference from nearby USB-C ports; a powered hub, dock or USB-A cable is its fix
  4. Best for auto framing
    Insta360 Link 2C 4K webcam

    Insta360 Link 2C 4K AI Webcam (CINSABNA)

The Link 2C suits anyone who moves about on calls, stands at a whiteboard or shares the camera with a housemate.

    View at WoolworthsView at Scorptec

Auto Framing keeps one person or a group in shot, and the 1/2-inch sensor records 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps with HDR in all modes. Autofocus works from 10 cm, the mics use AI noise cancelling, and a magnetic mount and privacy shutter come with it. It is Zoom certified and plugs into USB-C or, with the included adapter, USB-A. Scorptec, Woolworths and Insta360 sell it. Skip it on an ARM-based Windows laptop, which Insta360’s software doesn’t support.

    What we like

    • 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps, HDR in all modes
    • Auto Framing for one person or a group
    • Works with USB-C or USB-A; Zoom certified

    Watch out for

    • Link Controller software doesn’t support ARM-based Windows
    • Fixed 79.5° field of view (digital zoom only)

The short version

What to check at the shop

  • The MX Brio and the “MX Brio 700”. JB Hi-Fi and some other Australian retailers list the camera as the MX Brio 700. JB Hi-Fi’s listing gives model number 960-001548, which is the Graphite part number on Logitech’s own Australian MX Brio page (Pale Grey is 960-001561). If a listing shows one of those numbers, it is the camera described here.
  • Australian part numbers. Logitech’s Australian pages use their own part numbers, such as 960-001423 for the Graphite Brio 500, so a number that differs from an overseas review doesn’t mean a different camera.
  • Link 2C bundles. Some shops sell the Link 2C in bundles, so check what is in the box.

Logitech lists a one-year limited hardware warranty on all three of its cameras in Australia. The Australian Consumer Law guarantees apply on top of that: a webcam must be of acceptable quality and match its description, and if it doesn’t, you can go back to the retailer for a repair, replacement or refund.

Is your laptop camera good enough?

Sometimes. If your laptop’s spec page lists 1080p video and you face a window, a webcam may change less than you hope. It is worth buying when the laptop sits closed beside an external monitor (our guide to the best USB-C monitors covers one-cable desks), when you want the lens at eye level on that monitor, or when you want autofocus, a choice of framing or a physical shutter.

What matters for Teams and Zoom calls

Resolution and frame rate

Every pick records 1080p at 30fps, and that is what most calls carry. Teams and Zoom send at most 1080p in a meeting, and less on a congested NBN connection. The 4K MX Brio and Link 2C still earn their place when the camera crops or zooms to frame you, and both offer 1080p at 60fps for smoother motion.

Field of view

The Brio 100’s 58° shows you and little else, which suits a bedroom or a shared living area. The Brio 500 and MX Brio switch between 90°, 78° and 65°, so you can widen the shot for two people. The Link 2C is fixed at 79.5° and narrows the view with digital zoom and Auto Framing.

Focus

Autofocus keeps you sharp when you lean in or hold something up; the Link 2C focuses from 10 cm. The Brio 100’s fixed lens is set for a normal sitting distance.

Microphones

The Brio 100 has one omnidirectional mic (range up to about 1 m), the Brio 500 a stereo mic, the MX Brio dual beamforming mics and the Link 2C AI noise cancelling with three modes. For long call days or a noisy house, a desk mic or headset sounds clearer; our guide to USB microphones for remote workers compares models sold in Australia.

Ports

The Brio 100 plugs into USB-A. The Brio 500 needs USB-C, and Logitech warns it won’t be recognised through an adapter that only carries power. The MX Brio needs USB-C with USB 3.0 support. The Link 2C ships with a USB-C cable and a USB-A adapter.

Certification

A certified camera has been approved by Microsoft, Zoom or Google, and the maker lists it. Logitech lists the Brio 500 and MX Brio for Teams, Zoom and Google Meet; Insta360 lists the Link 2 series as Zoom certified. The Brio 100 still works in all three apps without certification. For businesses that manage cameras centrally, Logitech also sells the MX Brio 705 for Business, which IT can manage through Logitech Sync.

Setting up

Clip the webcam to the screen you look at most, then choose it as camera and microphone in Teams or Zoom so the laptop’s camera doesn’t stay on. The Logitech cameras work as plain webcams; Logi Tune (Brio 500) and Logi Options+ or G HUB (MX Brio) add the extras, but Logi Tune isn’t available for ChromeOS. The Link 2C’s framing modes live in Insta360’s Link Controller, which doesn’t support ARM-based Windows.

How we chose

We have not tested these webcams. We started from webcams Australian retailers sell, read the specs from Logitech’s and Insta360’s own pages and left out streaming-focused models. We weighted certification, autofocus and framing choice, and kept a USB-A option. We link only to shops selling the exact model, and we don’t compare their prices.

Questions people ask

Is 1080p good enough for Zoom and Teams meetings?

Yes. Teams and Zoom send at most 1080p in a meeting, so a 1080p webcam such as the Brio 500 covers what others see. 4K helps mainly when the camera crops or zooms.

Do I need a webcam certified for Microsoft Teams or Zoom?

Not usually. Uncertified webcams such as the Brio 100 work in both apps. Choose the Brio 500 or MX Brio if your employer only supports certified devices.

What warranty do these webcams have in Australia?

Logitech lists a one-year limited hardware warranty on the Brio 500, Brio 100 and MX Brio in Australia. The Australian Consumer Law guarantees also apply, so a faulty webcam can go back to the retailer.

Do these webcams work with a Mac?

Yes. Logitech lists macOS support for all three of its picks, and Insta360’s Link Controller for the Link 2C needs macOS 11.0 or later.

Will a USB-C webcam work with a USB-A port?

Only some. The Link 2C includes a USB-C to USB-A adapter. The Brio 500 and MX Brio need a USB-C port, and the MX Brio’s must support USB 3.0.
